ISTANBUL: A massive police manhunt ended early Tuesday after a 37-year-old gunman turned his weapon on himself when cornered by law enforcement in southern Turkey. The suspect’s violent rampage near Tarsus left six people dead and eight others wounded.
The attack began when the shooter, who had a history of psychiatric diagnoses and substance dependency, shot dead his ex-wife. He then opened fire at a nearby restaurant, killing the owner and an employee before fleeing to shoot a local shepherd and a truck driver at a petrol station.
Police deployed helicopters to track the suspect to a house 10 kilometers away, where he committed suicide to avoid capture. The tragedy comes just a month after two high-profile teenage shooting attacks rocked the country.
