New Delhi: India has added new disclosure criteria to its Citizenship Rules, 2009 in order to give Indian citizenship to applicants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Applicants now have to disclose if they have a valid or expired passport from any of the three nations in accordance with the updated regulations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that applicants possessing such passports must provide details such the passport number, the location and date of issuance, and the expiry date. The revised regulations came into effect as soon as they were published in the Official Gazette.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which offers a quicker citizenship option for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian migrants from the three surrounding countries who entered India before to the designated cut-off date, is subject to the implementation of the amendment.
Reports state that those who are given citizenship will also need to convert in their foreign passports within 15 days of approval.
