Berlin: German airline Lufthansa has issued an apology to filmmaker Pavel Talankin after his Oscar went missing during a flight from New York to Germany. The award was recovered hours later in Frankfurt following an urgent internal search.

The incident began when TSA officials at JFK Airport prevented Talankin from carrying the trophy won for his documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin into the cabin, labeling it a potential weapon.

Talankin was forced to check the statuette into the hold in a cardboard box; however, the award was missing upon his arrival in Germany. Lufthansa is currently reviewing how the item was lost while in its care.
