ABU DHABI: The UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) blocked over 13,000 websites during the first quarter of 2026 for copyright infringement and illegal content.

This proactive measure aims to protect intellectual property rights and ensure a safe digital environment for users and businesses alike.

The crackdown targeted sites hosting pirated movies, television series, and unlicensed sports broadcasts, which significantly impact the creative and media industries.

By restricting access to these platforms, the UAE continues to strengthen its legal framework regarding digital security and online compliance.

Officials emphasized that the move is part of an ongoing effort to combat cybercrime and unauthorized distribution of digital assets.

Users are encouraged to utilize legitimate streaming platforms and licensed services to support content creators and avoid potential security risks associated with illegal websites. This recent surge in enforcement reflects the UAE's commitment to maintaining global standards for digital copyright protection.
