Texas: An explosion at a major oil refinery in Port Arthur prompted authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents in surrounding areas, as emergency crews responded to a fire at the facility.

The incident occurred at a refinery operated by Valero, where flames and a large plume of black smoke were seen rising into the sky. Local officials said the explosion was likely caused by an industrial heater, according to initial reports.

Port Arthur emergency management authorities urged residents in nearby areas to remain indoors as a precaution, citing safety concerns following the blast.

In a statement, Valero confirmed that all personnel had been accounted for and that no injuries were reported. The company said a fire had broken out in one of the refinery units and that worker safety remained its top priority.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion that rattled windows, while local media footage showed intense flames and thick smoke billowing from the site.

The refinery, located about 90 miles east of Houston, is one of the largest in the region, processing approximately 435,000 barrels of crude oil per day into gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as emergency response efforts remain underway.
