Ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Russian Federation held high-level talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers to discuss escalating regional developments.
The meeting, chaired by Ahmed Abdulrahman Al-Saati, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain and current president of the GCC Council session, took place at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. The ambassadors met with Alexander Alimov, responsible for international organizations, and Georgy Borisenko, who oversees Middle East and North Africa affairs.
During the discussions, Ambassador Al-Saati stated that GCC countries have been subjected to a series of Iranian attacks since February 28, 2026. He noted that the attacks targeted residential areas, civilian facilities, and vital infrastructure across GCC states and Jordan, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to regional and global security.
The ambassadors called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which includes an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of international navigation. They emphasized the need for clear mechanisms to enforce compliance, including international monitoring of the ceasefire and strengthened multilateral cooperation to support regional stability.
The delegation also expressed hope that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, would play a more active role in halting what they described as ongoing Iranian attacks.
For their part, the Russian deputy foreign ministers welcomed the ambassadors and highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Russia, GCC countries, and Jordan. They reaffirmed Russia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of GCC states and condemned attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, stressing the importance of avoiding further human and material losses.
Both sides exchanged views on enhancing diplomatic coordination and intensifying international efforts to contain escalation and maintain regional security and stability.
