Mexico City: At least 11 suspected criminals were killed during a security operation in northern Mexico targeting a residence linked to the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, authorities said on Thursday.

According to the Mexican navy, the operation took place in Sinaloa, where personnel came under attack upon arrival and responded in line with legal protocols.

During the raid, security forces detained Omar Oswaldo Torres, also known as “El Patas,” identified as a leader within the Los Mayos faction. Officials did not release the identities of those killed in the operation.

Authorities also reported locating the daughter of a crime boss at the site. She was later released to her family after officials determined she had no involvement in criminal activities.

The navy said it seized a cache of high-powered and tactical weapons from the property.

The operation comes amid ongoing efforts by Mexican authorities to dismantle powerful drug cartels. Last month, a separate military operation reportedly killed Nemesio Oseguera, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, in Jalisco.

Mexico continues to face significant challenges from organized crime groups, with security forces intensifying operations against cartel networks across the country.
