Iran Says It’s Not Intimidated by US Naval Deployment in Gulf

U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, visited the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, following a round of diplomatic talks with Iran.

The carrier, part of the Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, is a key component of the United States’ military presence in the region amid heightened tensions and recent unrest in Iran. During their visit, Witkoff and Kushner met with sailors and Marines and observed flight operations aboard the vessel.

In a post on X, Witkoff said the delegation spoke with service members “upholding President Trump’s message of peace through strength.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking Sunday, said the country was not intimidated by the U.S. naval presence in the Gulf. “Their military deployment in the region does not scare us,” he stated, two days after Witkoff’s visit.

The trip highlights the U.S. administration’s ongoing efforts to maintain a strategic presence in the Middle East while engaging in high-level diplomacy with Tehran.
