US Navy sailor falls from hotel balcony, dies on spot

rnA US Navy sailor died after falling from a hotel balcony while he was off duty in Bahrain late Saturday, military officials said.The sailor, assigned to the destroyer USS Farragut, was “on liberty” in Manama, the US 5th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Kevin Stephens said in a statement.The incident took place at 10pm local time Saturday. The sailor’s name has not been released. The ship was docked there as part of a routine port visit.The USS Farragut is part of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, currently deployed to the US Fifth Fleet in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the campaign against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).In response to queries made by DT News, Ministry of Interior suggested to contact the US Naval base and refrained from revealing any information about the incident. According to the US Navy sources, the case is under investigation, and so detailed information cannot be disclosed until the probe is over.Bahrain is a longtime host of the US 5th Fleet. Many hotels, restaurants and bars here cater to the Navy personnel near the base generally.
