Muharraq has seen 27 road projects completed since 2023 at a cost of around BD69 million, with five more schemes worth over BD45 million currently underway, Works Minister Ebrahim Al Hawaj told Parliament.

In a written response to MPs, the minister said the projects aim to ease traffic congestion, increase road capacity, and improve sewerage and rainwater drainage systems as the governorate continues to develop.

He said major upgrades to Shaikh Abdulla Avenue and Shaikh Isa Avenue are more than 90 per cent complete and are expected to finish by the end of the year.

Al Hawaj also highlighted upcoming strategic projects, including the planned Fourth Bridge linking Muharraq and Manama, as well as upgrades to airport access roads, highways, and key routes in Muharraq, Busaiteen, and Al Sayah.

On drainage infrastructure, he said 14 projects worth over BD21 million have been completed in four years, with further works and pumping stations underway to reduce water accumulation in low-lying areas.

The minister added that ongoing coordination with service providers is required due to underground utilities, but affirmed continued efforts to meet the governorate's growing infrastructure needs.
