Sitra Corniche in Nabih Saleh has moved a step closer to becoming a formally designated recreational area after the Capital Municipality Council approved its classification under the Recreational Areas (REC) zoning category.
The decision follows a technical review by the relevant municipal committee after a request was submitted via the Planning Platform, with officials assessing the proposal in line with the approved master plan for the area.
The classification covers the waterfront site in Block 381, spanning approximately 42,655.1 square metres, and is intended to regulate land use while promoting sustainable urban development.
If formally implemented, the designation would secure the corniche as a public leisure and community space, ensuring its protection as an open recreational area for families and visitors.
Municipal officials said the move is part of wider efforts to structure land use and enhance coastal and waterfront development across the Capital Governorate.
After reviewing technical and planning details, the committee approved the REC classification, highlighting the site’s importance in strengthening public amenities and recreational facilities.
Mubarak Al Noaimi, Head of the Technical Committee, said the decision aligns with the municipality’s broader strategy to develop waterfronts and expand recreational spaces across the capital.
