Cancer awareness walk gets warm reception

Charity was the big winner as more than 800 people raised over BD2,000 at the fourth ‘Kids with Cancer’ Walk-A-Thon yesterday at Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd.
People of all nationalities from all sectors of the Kingdom’s community took part in the 3.2 kilometre walk organised by Future Society for Youth ‘Smile Initiative’.
Public Relations head of the Future Society for Youth, Yousif Ahmed said, “Our aim is to focus on children who have been diagnosed with cancer and promote awareness against this terrible disease. On October 1 and 2, with Harley Davidson, we have a campaign to try to rouse awareness so if people feel they have a problem go for a check-up.”
Doctor Amal Al Jowder, Director of Health at the Health Ministry said, “We need to boost this awareness campaign against cancer and get more community support. This involves not only your immediate family, but friends and communication and involving the youth to there future responsibilities regarding family.”
Organiser Adnan Al Qassab said, “It was a great turn out by all those who involved. Event supporters included MacDonalds, Coca Cola, ‘Bahrain Specialist Hospital’, ‘Royal Bahrain Hospital’. BBK, Al Salam bank, Ithmaar Bank, GFH, Seef Mall, BIC, Maya Cafe, Manara, McDonadls, Sport Training Complex, Hakkayah, Magic Wok, Media Services Centre, Alayyam newspaper, Muharraq Muncipality, Bahrain Specialist Hospital, Royal Bahrain Hospital, Harley Davidson, Galata and Juton Paints Bahrain.
