Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said the GCC-US Joint Ministerial Meeting focused on regional developments, security, stability, and ongoing efforts to promote de-escalation and mediation.
Al Budaiwi said discussions underscored the importance of ensuring that any future understandings or arrangements take into account the interests of GCC countries and contribute to safeguarding their security and stability.
He stressed that such arrangements should be grounded in international law, respect for state sovereignty, good neighbourly relations, and non-interference in internal affairs, helping to strengthen regional peace and stability.
The GCC Secretary General noted that GCC member states welcomed diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, enhancing regional security, and protecting key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz. He added that safeguarding freedom of navigation and upholding international law are essential to achieving security and prosperity for the region and the wider world.
Al Budaiwi also said that GCC foreign ministers and their US counterpart reviewed several regional issues, assessed recent developments, and discussed their implications for the security of GCC countries and the broader region, as well as ongoing efforts to address these challenges.
