Montenegro Police arrests Iran-linked hacker wanted in US

Podgorica: Montenegro police, working in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have arrested a 39-year-old hacker in the coastal town of Kotor, who is wanted in the United States for orchestrating massive cyberattacks.
The suspect, identified as A.B., holds Iranian and Turkish nationality and is wanted for serious charges, including organized crime, cyber fraud, hacking, and identity theft.
According to a police statement, the individual began these operations in 2013 as an associate of a legal entity based in Iran. The scale of the alleged criminal activity is immense, involving attacks on 150 universities and critical American infrastructure, resulting in estimated damages exceeding $3.4 billion.
Officials noted that the stolen data and compromised university profiles were leveraged to benefit the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as several Iranian universities.
Following the arrest, the suspect will face court proceedings in Podgorica to determine his extradition to the United States.
