Bahrain role model for tolerance - Speaker

Manama : Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, has stressed that during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain has promoted tolerance as a well-established social culture and a basis for a modern civil state, thus becoming a distinguished role model for tolerance, co-existence, understanding, harmony, love, peace, religious freedom and openness.

She affirmed that tolerance is a deep-rooted comprehensive concept in the kingdom, that supports the right of the individuals and communities to perform their rituals, and accept the others, regardless of their religious or intellectual affiliations, noting that HM King Hamad has consolidated such long-standing values through a number of global initiatives that have been widely acclaimed by the International Community, including the establishment of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Co-Existence and the inauguration of the “King Hamad Chair in Inter-Faith Dialogue and Peaceful Co-Existence” at the Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, in addition to the establishment of a number of human rights-related institutions and NGOs.

She pointed out the International Day for Tolerance is a good opportunity to promote high human values, confront all forms of extremism and hostility, and support the human culture in pluralism, understanding, coexistence and respect for the other, as well as the right of humans to practise their beliefs in safety and tranquility.

The speaker stressed that the kingdom has become, thanks to its landmark achievements under its comprehensive development march, an important platform to ensure the success of inter-faith dialogues, meetings and conferences, noting that that Bahrain enjoys tolerance, co-existence, cordiality and fraternity among all the components of its society.

 She called on the International Community to assume its role in promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful co-existence, and to take advantage of the successful experiences of some countries in this regard.
