Bahrain gets 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables from 130 countries
This process, Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning said, ensures a constant supply of vegetable and fruits in the Kingdom’s market. The Ministry further said it examined close to 8000 agricultural consignments at the Kingdom’s shipping ports in the first four months of this year. Of the 7960 agricultural consignments, 6790 were for fruits and vegetables.
All of the consignments were inspected and found to be safe. Concerned department at the Ministry issued 1354 licenses including 415 for importing vegetables and fruits and 939 for importing plants. 35,000 agricultural consignments were received at Bahrain’s ports last year, which included 330 thousand tons of vegetables and fruits.
“The department has thoroughly inspected agricultural products entering the Kingdom via King Fahad Causeway, Bahrain International airport and more,” a Ministry representative said. “Every step is taken to ensure that the agricultural products are safe and hygienic at the same time speed up procedures so businesses do not lose time.”
