Diwali lights up Bahrain

ManamaHis Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister has hailed the extraordinary contributions of Indian community in the Kingdom as he jointed the festivities in Bahrain for the annual ‘festival of lights’ celebrated around the world in autumn.   

“Diwali represents an opportunity to celebrate the important and valuable contributions the Indian community has made to the Kingdom,” said HRH Prince Salman during his visit to the families of Maljimal, Bhatia, Asarpota, Kewalram, Vaidya, and Kavalani on the occasion.

Also known as Deepavali, a Sanskrit word meaning “rows of lighted lamps’,  Diwali is one of the most popular festival celebrated across South Asia. 

His Royal Highness highlighted that Bahrain, home to many religious communities, maintains its long-standing support to fostering religious and cultural tolerance.

The Crown Prince also emphasised the important role Islam plays in promoting coexistence between all religions and cultures

The families celebrating Diwali expressed gratitude for the Crown Prince’s visit, and welcomed the Kingdom’s cultural openness and long-standing support for religious freedom.
