Foreign Ministry slams terror attack in Italian Consulate in Egypt

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain condemned the terrorist act that targeted the premises of the Consulate of the Italian Republic in the Arab Republic of Egypt on Saturday, killing one person and injuring several others when a car bomb went off at the building.
In a statement, the Ministry stressed that the terrorist act was contrary to all human and moral values, and a violation of all international laws and norms, and an infringement of the immunity enjoyed by the premises of diplomatic missions.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences to the relatives and families of the martyr and wished for a speedy recovery to all the injured as a result of the cowardly terrorist act. It confirmed the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain to all the steps taken by the Arab Republic of Egypt in order to establish security, strengthen stability and achieve the aspirations of the Egyptian people for further development and prosperity.
The Ministry also extended its support to the efforts and the stances of Italy that back the efforts of the international community aimed at defeating and eliminating these terrorist groups.
The Ministry renewed its firm stance in rejecting all forms of terrorism and called for the intensification of international efforts to eliminate this dangerous scourge, which constitutes a persisting threat to security and peace in the region and the world at large.
In the explosion, the main entrance of the Consulate building was almost totally destroyed, windows were shattered and the building was flooded after water-pipes ruptured.
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi spoke to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi after the attack and promised the two countries would stand together "in the fight against terrorism and fanaticism".
