Clampdown on street vendors
Manama : More than 80 illegal vending points in the Southern Governorate have been removed by the authorities.
Southern Area Municipality announced yesterday that it removed vendors from 85 areas in different parts of the governorate during the past two months.
The municipality confirmed that it had dealt in its campaign with 36 locations in Isa Town, 35 in Riffa and 14 in Hejjiyat area near Riffa.
It stressed that this phenomenon is unhealthy and harms the businesses of legal vendors and permitted shops.
The municipality that the campaign comes within its efforts to curb illegal street vendors, especially after complaints filed against them by store owners and citizens have increased lately.
It also mentioned that it is cooperating with the health authorities to eliminate the issue, adding that street vendors store their products in unhealthy conditions.
