Bahraini re-elected to UN panel on child rights

Geneva

Bahraini Amal Salman Al Dossary has been re-elected for a second term as the Deputy Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child during the committee’s 69th session in Geneva.

The committee comprising 18 independent experts monitors the enforcement of the International Convention on Children’s Rights by its member states.

The committee also monitors the application of the three optional conventions regarding the involvement of children in armed conflicts, trafficking, abuse etc. and individual complaints.

According to political analysts, this latest appointment is seemed as a new addition to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s human rights record and attests to the existence of capable Bahraini activists to assume key international decision-making positions.
