Indian Club to celebrate Yoga Day today

Manama

The Indian Club, in association with the Indian Embassy, the Middle East Medical (MEM) Centre and the Bahrain Chapter of Art of Living will celebrate the International Day of Yoga today.

Addressing media yesterday, the Indian Club president, Anand Lobo said that Yoga was a significant and rich part of India’s cultural heritage, therefore the club will provide the Indian community in Bahrain with an opportunity to learn and experience more about the ancient practice.

Speaking on the occasion, Marketing Manager of MEM, Boban Idiculla said that MEM was proud to be a part of the Indian Club in celebrating International Day of Yoga.

Yoga Therapy Specialist, Fatima Al Mansoori said that Yoga was highly compatible with Islam and that it did not belong to any religion. “While teaching Yoga, we also teach about healthy lifestyle and to keep away diseases,” she said.

Meanwhile, she said that learning Yoga was not just a one-day job. “There should be continuity. This is what I have been doing in the last four years. Yoga helped me to overcome the chronic syndrome called fibromyalgia (chronic fatigue syndrome), for which doctors said there is no treatment,” Fatima Al Mansoori said.

Dr. Syed Shamsuddin Babar, member of faculty of Homoeopathy (London) since 1987, added that Homoeopathy was an art of healing, while Yoga was a way of life. All exercises of Yoga focus on oxygenating the body. It does wonders when you supplement Yoga with harmless homeopathic medicines, he said.

The programme will start today at 8.30pm. Fatima Al Mansoori, Yoga teacher Hasan and members of Art of Living will demonstrate Yoga on the occasion.

Dr. Ravi Preet Singh, CEO of MEM Centre, the Indian Club General Secretary, Ashok Kumar T.S. and other members of executive committee of the Indian Club were present on the occasion.
