Indian Embassy to fete International Yoga Day

The Indian Embassy in concert with the Art of Living Bahrain Chapter will organise a host of events to mark the celebration of the first International Day of Yoga.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Ram Singh said that on September 27, 2014 at the 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi urged the world community to adopt an International Day of Yoga.
The resolution for proclaiming International Yoga Day on June 21 was co-sponsored by 177 countries, which is the largest number so far to co-sponsor a resolution, a record in UN History.
“The resolution was passed unanimously and UNGA decided to proclaim June 21 as the International Yoga Day,” he said.
As part of the celebration, an event titled, ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace’ will be held at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) Hall at Segaya on June 21, from 8.30pm to 10pm.
“The event will include Yoga demonstration by children, Rhythmic Yoga by youth team as well as Yoga and meditation session led by Art of Living teachers,” said Ram Singh.
“Yoga’s emergence at Global arena and its popularity and acceptability from Cairo to Chicago, Nagpur to New York, Tokyo to Toronto and Addis Ababa to Mexico has made it a truly global phenomenon. Yoga now symbolises the Pan Global appeal of India’s rich cultural heritage,” he said, adding that 192 embassies all over the world would celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21.
Srinivasan Konnat, of Art of Living, said that Yoga protocol of Government of India would be followed during the event. “In 150 countries, Art of Living has associated with the Government of India to make the first International Day of Yoga a grand success,” he added.
Indian Embassy Second Secretary Anand Prakash, BKS President Varghese Karakkal and Shilpa Abhayankar, of Art of Living were present on the occasion.
