Legislative Committee Clears 91pc of Fourth Session Work

Parliament’s Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee completed 91 per cent of its work during the fourth ordinary session of the sixth legislative term, according to committee figures released on Thursday.

The committee held 27 meetings during the session, finalising 26 reports, issuing 112 opinions and sending 268 letters.

It reviewed 47 matters as the lead committee and 122 additional referrals for notice. By the end of the session, it had completed 37 lead referrals and 114 notice referrals.

Among the key issues discussed was the draft Law on the Legal Profession, aimed at modernising regulations governing lawyers in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals.

The committee also reviewed proposed amendments to the Civil and Commercial Implementation Law and Parliament’s internal by-law, including a proposal to reduce the majority required for Parliament to approve the seriousness of a questioning request.

Another amendment examined would lower the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution’s claim threshold from BD500,000 to BD100,000, expanding the range of commercial disputes it can hear.

The committee was chaired by MP Mahmood Fardan, with MP Mohammed Salman Al Ahmed serving as deputy chairman.
