Court upholds rapist cop’s jail term

Manama: A former policeman convicted of raping a 20-year-old woman has had his one-year jail sentence upheld.

The woman is said to have been working in a mall, and during her working hours she received a phone call from the defendant, who introduced himself as “a man of a good will,” according to the court documents.

He told her that he wanted to help her as she was facing threats. “When he arrived near the mall, he requested me to enter his car. And I did. He told me that my brother was dealing with drugs, and he would be jailed,” the victim told prosecutors.

He then took me to a tent in Sakhir and started shouting at me before asking me to have sex with him. Then he raped me under threat,” she added.

The defendant, however, denied threatening her to have sex with him, alleging that he had paid her BD25 to sleep with him.

The defendant was earlier handed down one year behind the bars.
