Restoring the Heart of Bahrain

Bahrain’s historic heart is set for careful renewal. HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reviewed progress on two flagship heritage projects at Gudaibiya Palace, stressing that development must never come at the expense of identity.

His Royal Highness reaffirmed his follow-up on King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s order to protect the historical character of Bahrain’s buildings and cities. This includes restoring Isa Al Kabeer Palace and Muharraq’s neighbourhoods, and redeveloping the historical Manama Souq area.

Reviewing the latest advances in the Muharraq City Development Plan and the Souq redevelopment, he urged sustained effort and faster delivery. He also called for stronger coordination among the entities involved and stressed that heritage landmarks must be preserved alongside development needs.

The Crown Prince described the heritage of Bahrain’s cities as integral to national identity. He stressed the need to showcase it and strengthen its presence for future generations.

The meeting was attended by HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court, HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, and senior officials.
