Isa Town Market to Get 500 New Parking Spaces

The scheme is one of several projects under way across the Southern Governorate’s second constituency, MP Dr Maryam Al Dhaen said.

Plans also include an expansion of Ramez Shopping Centre, new lighting and power cables inside the market, extra sites for private investment and a link to the treated-water network.

Dr Al Dhaen said the new parking spaces would make it far easier for shoppers to reach stores and move through the area, while helping shopkeepers draw in more trade.

The Southern Municipality and Ramez Group are also working on a joint scheme to expand the Isa Town shopping centre.

She said the deal showed strong trust between the public and private sectors and would bring better retail services, higher footfall and more business to the town.

Several well-placed sites inside the market are also being studied for investment. They could bring in new shops and make better use of municipal land.

Old electrical cables are being replaced and the indoor lighting system is being upgraded in a bid to make the market safer and more comfortable for workers and shoppers.

Municipal teams have also been carrying out checks on shop wiring, fire rules and safety measures, while warning traders of the risks caused by poor electrical work.

Dr Al Dhaen said the checks would help guard lives and property and cut the risk of fires or trade being brought to a halt.

A planned treated-water link would allow more trees and planting around the market without using drinking water for irrigation.

She praised Southern Municipality director-general Isa Abdulrahman Al Buainain for the work, saying Isa Town was seeing a string of schemes aimed at roads, public spaces and shopping areas.

Dr Al Dhaen said the projects would help Isa Town keep its place as one of Bahrain’s main shopping and urban hubs, while meeting the needs of residents, traders and investors.
