Bahrain is stepping up preparations for the next phase of smart border management, with 39 Ministry of Interior personnel completing specialised training in advanced passenger data analysis and risk assessment systems powered by artificial intelligence.

The participants, drawn from various departments across the ministry, were honoured by Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, following their successful completion of the fourth edition of the Passenger Data Tracking and Analysis System – Risk Analysis System programme.

Organised by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) in partnership with SITA, the training was held from June 8 to 11 and focused on enhancing capabilities in border security, passenger data analysis and the early identification of potential risks. The ceremony was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Ports, Search and Follow-up Brigadier Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Doseri.

Shaikh Hisham said the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to equip ministry personnel with the skills required to operate advanced security technologies and support the Kingdom’s wider digital transformation agenda.

He explained that the initiative aligns with plans to modernise operations at Bahrain’s entry points and prepare for the launch of the new operations centre at Bahrain International Airport.

According to the undersecretary, the system will leverage artificial intelligence to analyse passenger information, proactively detect risk indicators, and improve the efficiency and accuracy of border procedures. The technology is also expected to facilitate smoother passenger movement through checkpoints while strengthening security measures.
