Manama: Ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held a high-level meeting at the Italian Senate headquarters in Rome with members of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, chaired by Senator Stefania Craxi.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Osama bin Abdullah Al-Absi, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Italy and current chair of the GCC Ambassadors’ cycle in Rome, alongside fellow GCC ambassadors and the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Italy.
During the session, discussions focused on recent regional developments, particularly the unjustified Iranian attacks targeting several countries in the region, and their impact on regional and international security and stability.
The GCC ambassadors strongly condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks on GCC territories and the wider region, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a direct threat to the safety of civilians.
They emphasized the GCC countries’ legitimate right to defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of their citizens and residents, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The ambassadors also highlighted the strategic importance of the Gulf region in maintaining global energy security and safe international navigation, particularly given the critical role of regional maritime routes in international trade and energy supply.
Italian senators expressed their condemnation of the Iranian attacks and stressed the need to avoid further escalation that could threaten regional and international security and stability.
