In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain is set to host a pioneering Irrigation Innovation Competition aimed at encouraging creative solutions to optimize the use of treated water. The initiative seeks to enhance water efficiency in agriculture and landscaping, expand irrigation networks, and support sustainable resource management in alignment with the Kingdom’s broader development goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Organized by the Ministry of Works, a dedicated briefing seminar was held to outline the competition’s objectives, participation guidelines, and application requirements, while addressing questions from prospective participants ahead of the registration deadline on 6 November.

The Ministry highlighted that the competition is open to individuals, engineering offices, contractors, universities, research centers, and other relevant entities. Participants are invited to propose practical innovations that improve water use efficiency, ensure balanced irrigation for trees and crops, and support urban greening and agricultural activities across Bahrain.

The competition focuses on two categories:

Category One: Developing innovative irrigation solutions for specific areas, including King Hamad Street, Bahrain Bay Street, and Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street.

Category Two: Selecting an area currently not served by treated water networks and proposing comprehensive irrigation solutions for it.

Evaluation criteria will include economic feasibility, operational sustainability, level of innovation, design quality, and technical presentation. The Ministry emphasized that the competition aims to foster community and institutional engagement, generating practical and sustainable solutions that safeguard Bahrain’s water resources and expand green spaces across the Kingdom.

Attendees at the seminar were encouraged to register via the Ministry’s official online platform www.works.gov.bh
and contribute to shaping Bahrain’s future in sustainable urban and agricultural development.
