Sports Are Now a Core Pillar of Urban and Community Growth

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, received Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority, and Engineer Mohammed Saad Al Suhailee, Director-General of the Capital Municipality.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and unify efforts to serve the community and enhance the quality of developmental and sports projects in the capital.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the vital role played by the Capital Governorate and its municipality in advancing public facilities and infrastructure. He emphasized that collaboration between the sports sector and the Capital Governorate is a key factor in supporting major sporting events hosted by Bahrain and in further positioning the Kingdom as a premier destination for international sports. “Sports today are not just about competition—they are an integral part of urban and community development,” His Highness noted.

For his part, Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa expressed gratitude and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his unwavering support of national efforts in youth and sports. He highlighted that cooperation between the Capital Governorate and sports institutions helps raise public awareness and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. The Governor reaffirmed the Capital Governorate’s commitment to supporting all sports activities and programs that enrich community life.
