US Military to Screen Troops Aged 30 and Over for Low Testosterone

Washington : The US military will begin mandatory testosterone deficiency screening for active-duty and reserve personnel aged 30 and above as part of annual health checks, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced.
Troops found to have low testosterone may be offered voluntary hormone replacement therapy, while testing will remain optional for personnel under 30. Hegseth said the programme was intended to support long-term health and military readiness, rather than provide artificial performance enhancement.
The Pentagon has not clarified whether the screening will apply equally to women or whether female service members could receive hormone treatment for age-related changes. The announcement has drawn criticism from some Democratic lawmakers, who have called for similar health screening and treatment options for women.
Medical experts have backed screening for some men over 30 but warned that testosterone therapy should only be given to those with confirmed deficiency and related symptoms.
