Whale to be removed from Danish island after failed German rescue

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has urged islanders to stay away from the carcass due to the risk of infection.
Local residents have also expressed fears that the decomposing whale might explode, as it has noticeably bloated in recent days due to a build-up of internal gases.
The agency intends to conduct a post-mortem examination and secure valuable scientific samples for research purposes, though a definitive timeline for the removal has not yet been detailed.
The whale, nicknamed "Timmy" or "Hope" by German media, had transfixed the public since early March when it became entangled in netting and stranded in Lübeck Bay.
Despite warnings from German marine experts that the animal was too weak to survive, two private entrepreneurs orchestrated a rescue in late April, transporting the whale by barge and releasing it into the North Sea.
Authorities confirmed the carcass on Anholt was the same whale after discovering a GPS tracker attached during the rescue attempt.
