Paris: French singer and actor Patrick Bruel is under increasing legal and public scrutiny as authorities in France and Belgium investigate multiple allegations of rape and sexual violence spanning nearly three decades.

The 67-year-old performer denies all allegations, saying he “never sought to coerce anyone into a sexual act” while also stating he “does not question the feelings of women.”

The case, which first emerged in March following investigative reporting by Mediapart, includes accusations from dozens of women, with at least four formal complaints filed in the Paris region. Additional complaints were submitted last week, including one by French television presenter Flavie Flament, who alleges rape in 1991 when she was 16.

Authorities say the complaints will be consolidated under the jurisdiction of the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office. Investigations are ongoing in France and Belgium, covering alleged incidents between 1991 and 2019.

Some earlier complaints had previously been dismissed due to insufficient evidence, but lawyers for the complainants say renewed testimonies and public support have encouraged further legal action.

Bruel’s legal team has strongly rejected the allegations, calling them inconsistent with his past relationships and interactions with some of the accusers.

The case has gained further attention after additional public testimonies and social media statements supporting the complainants emerged in recent days. The singer is presumed innocent while investigations continue.
