TEXAS: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a 59-page lawsuit against Netflix, accusing the streaming giant of illegally collecting sensitive user data and using ‘addictive’ design tactics.
The suit alleges that Netflix tracks viewing habits and behavioral data to help advertisers target subscribers. Furthermore, it claims Netflix employs features like ‘autoplay’ to hook young viewers, violating the state's Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Netflix has dismissed the legal action, stating the lawsuit "lacks merit" and is based on ‘distorted information’. The company maintains it complies with all privacy laws. Texas is seeking civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation and an injunction to stop data collection during the litigation.
