The United Arab Emirates has been targeted by “vicious” missile and drone attacks originating from Iran, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who expressed full solidarity with the UAE and condemned the strikes as a violation of international law.

In a statement, von der Leyen said the UAE was “once again” hit by attacks and extended support to President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emirati people, and regional partners.

“These attacks are unacceptable and constitute a clear violation of sovereignty and international law,” she said.

She added that “security in the region has direct consequences for Europe,” stressing the need for continued cooperation with international partners.

Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, also said the European Union would work closely with partners on de-escalation efforts and pursue a diplomatic solution aimed at ending what she described as the Iranian leadership’s “brutal actions,” both against neighbouring states and its own population.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed concerns over spillover effects on broader Middle East security.
