Washington DC: The United States has approved military sales worth more than $8.6 billion to key Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, amid ongoing tensions linked to the Iran conflict.
The approvals were made after the State Department determined an emergency situation, allowing the administration to bypass the usual congressional review process.
The package includes Patriot air and missile defence services for Qatar, advanced precision-guided weapon systems for multiple countries, and an integrated battle command system for Kuwait.
The move comes as the US and its allies continue to navigate the fallout from the Iran war, with regional security concerns remaining high.
Major defence contractors involved in the deals include BAE Systems, RTX, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
The decision has drawn scrutiny from critics, who question continued military support to countries facing human rights concerns, while Washington maintains the sales are vital for regional stability and defence cooperation.
