More than 300 killed as Yemen clashes force families to flee

Sanaa: More than 300 people have been killed in several days of fighting between Yemen’s government forces and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the southwest of the country, according to an AFP tally.
The violence began after the Houthis launched an offensive on Thursday, with fighting reported in areas near Yemen’s western coast and key routes leading towards the Red Sea.
Government officials said 84 troops were killed between Saturday and early Sunday, while Houthi sources reported 57 rebel fighters killed. Hundreds of families have fled their homes to escape the fighting.
The latest clashes have opened a new front in Yemen’s long-running conflict and threaten to further worsen the country’s humanitarian crisis.
