95 year old Raul Castro makes rare television appearance in Cuba

Havana: Former Cuban president Raul Castro, 95, has appeared on state television after several weeks away from public view.
Castro was shown wearing his traditional military uniform while congratulating veterans of a unit responsible for protecting Cuba’s leaders. He was accompanied by his grandson, Raul Guillermo Rodriguez Castro, who heads his personal security team.
Although Castro no longer holds an official government or Communist Party position, he remains influential in Cuba’s political decision-making and retains strong support within the armed forces.
His appearance comes as Cuba faces a severe economic crisis and growing pressure from the United States. In June, Castro backed market-oriented reforms aimed at helping the struggling economy.
Castro led Cuba as president from 2006 to 2018, succeeding his brother Fidel Castro.
