Deadly Building Collapse in India: Six Killed, Rescue Efforts Underway

New Delhi: A five story building containing student accommodation collapsed in South Delhi's Satya Niketan district on Sunday afternoon, killing at least six people and trapping many more.

The structure, located near Delhi University's South Campus, fell around 1:30 p.m., trapping residents behind a vast pile of rubble. According to officials, rescue teams are working to locate and evacuate survivors among the rubble.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, police and other emergency agencies have been deployed at the site. Several people have already been rescued, while several trapped students apparently managed to notify rescuers through phone.

The Delhi government started an investigation into the collapse, and police have filed a case against the building owner. Authorities are also looking into whether safety and building standards were violated.

Rescue efforts continue as emergency crews clear the rubble and look for possible survivors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern about the disaster, sending condolences to the families of those who died and hoping for the injured to recover quickly. He stated that authorities were working at the scene and aiding people affected by the tragedy.
