U.S. and Ukraine hold talks as efforts continue to end war

Kyiv : US and Ukrainian officials held talks in Kyiv as efforts continue to find a possible end to the war with Russia.
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after travelling to the Ukrainian capital by train because of the threat from Russian drone attacks.
European officials also joined the discussions. The sides described the talks as productive and expressed hope for further negotiations involving the US, Ukraine and European countries.
However, major differences remain over how the war should end. Russia has demanded changes involving Ukrainian territory, Nato membership and Ukraine’s military, while Kyiv has insisted on strong security guarantees and maintaining a capable armed force.
Zelensky has also shown no willingness to give up Ukrainian territory in the eastern Donbas region.
US officials said progress was made but acknowledged that both Russia and Ukraine would have to make compromises. Despite the diplomatic efforts, there is little expectation of an immediate end to the fighting.
