Strengthens Fight Against Cross-Border Crime

Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to international police cooperation and the exchange of security information to combat cross-border crime, as the Kingdom marks the International Day of Police Cooperation today. 

Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said international security cooperation has become increasingly important as criminal activities extend beyond national borders and evolve with advances in technology and communications.

The minister highlighted Bahrain’s cooperation through the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), which supports the exchange of information, tracking fugitives and joint security operations.

During 2026, the Directorate of International Affairs and Interpol handed over 11 internationally wanted persons to requesting countries and received 19 fugitives.

In efforts to combat drug trafficking, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science exchanged 65 pieces of information with nine countries.

The Financial Intelligence National Centre also received 49 requests and issued 30 in cooperation related to money laundering and terrorist financing, in addition to 37 requests through other cooperation mechanisms.

General Shaikh Rashid stressed the importance of modern technologies, artificial intelligence and data analysis in strengthening police capabilities and tackling cybercrime, organised crime and other emerging threats.
