A large new monument previously nicknamed the “Arc de Trump” has been officially named the United States Triumphal Arch, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The project is planned to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence. The proposed structure is expected to rise 250 feet (76.2 meters), symbolically matching 250 years of American history, and would feature a golden Statue of Liberty figure at its top.
Officials said the arch is designed as a major national landmark celebrating American independence. Once completed, it would become one of the tallest triumphal arches in the world, surpassing similar monuments in Paris, Mexico City, and Pyongyang.
The idea first gained attention after a model of the structure was seen in the Oval Office, leading to its informal nickname. More detailed designs were later released publicly.
The project is part of a wider set of architectural plans associated with former President Donald Trump’s second term, including renovations and new construction projects in Washington.
Critics have raised concerns about the cost and scale of the project, arguing it reflects personal ambition rather than public necessity. Funding is expected to come partly from federal sources and private donations, according to reports.
