US Envoy Visits USS Abraham Lincoln as Iran Talks Loom
US President Donald Trump’s lead negotiator on Iran, Steve Witkoff, said on Saturday that he visited the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, which is currently operating in the Arabian Sea, as Washington and Tehran prepare for further diplomatic talks.
In a post shared on social media, Witkoff said he met with Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of US Naval Forces Central Command, along with Jared Kushner, and personnel stationed aboard the carrier. He praised the sailors and Marines of the USS Abraham Lincoln, its strike group and Carrier Air Wing 9 for their role in maintaining regional security.
“They are keeping us safe and upholding President Trump’s message of peace through strength,” Witkoff said.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that he hoped negotiations with the United States would resume in the near future. However, he reiterated Tehran’s red lines and warned against any potential US military action.
