Sri Lanka witnesses aggressive flood, leaving 31 dead, 14 missing

Colombo: Sri Lanka is witnessing a week of heavy floods following the heavy rainfall since November 17, which in a week caused 31 deaths and the disappearance of 14. According to the officials, 4000 people are affected so far, while 10 individuals have sustained injuries. The Batticaloa district of Sri Lanka has recorded over 300 millimetres of rainfall, an exceptionally huge amount of rain for a single period.

After the heavy flood and landslide, Sri Lanka stopped passenger trains and closed roads in some of the high-risk parts of the country for precaution. 18 people lost their lives, and 14 went missing, are from the areas in the tea-growing mountains of Badulla and Nuwara Eliya of the country's central province, which is about 300 kilometres east of Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo. Disaster Management Department has issued a red Alert landslide warning for eight high-risk districts in the country.
