Two National Guardsmen Shot Near White House in Washington DC

Washington DC – Two National Guardsmen were shot on Tuesday evening just a few blocks from the White House, according to authorities. The incident took place near the intersection of 17th Street NW and I Street NW, a busy area close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Emergency services responded immediately, transporting three victims to local hospitals. The identity and condition of the third victim have not yet been confirmed.

A suspect has been taken into custody, and the scene has been secured, according to the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department. "The scene is secured. One suspect is in custody," the department posted on social media platform X.

The White House released a statement confirming that officials are monitoring the situation. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, "The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation. The president has been briefed." President Donald Trump was not in Washington DC at the time, as he was at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem urged the public to keep the injured National Guardsmen in their thoughts.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel cordoned off the area, with police and medical teams responding to the scene. Joint Task Force DC, which assists federal and local agencies, confirmed it was actively involved in the response but did not release further details.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Authorities have not provided additional information about the motive or the condition of the victims.
