Sinkhole Swallows Car on Busy Singapore Road

A black car was swallowed by a sudden sinkhole on Saturday evening at the busy junction of Tanjong Katong Road South and Mountbatten Road, causing part of the road to be closed.

The dramatic incident happened around 5:50pm, according to Singapore’s national water agency, PUB. Dashcam footage shared online captured the shocking moment the road collapsed, forming a deep hole that trapped the car.

Thankfully, quick-thinking workers nearby rushed to help. Using a rope, they managed to pull the female driver out of the sinkhole before emergency responders arrived. When officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reached the scene, the woman was conscious and was taken to the hospital for further checks.

PUB later confirmed that the driver was able to walk and is continuing to undergo medical evaluation. The agency added that they are keeping in touch with her to offer any necessary support.

Investigations are underway to determine what caused the road to cave in.
