Senior Awami League leader Rabbi Alam has claimed that Sheikh Hasina will return as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, asserting that the ousted leader will reclaim her position despite the political turmoil in the country.
Alam, a close aide of Hasina, expressed gratitude to India for providing refuge to her after she fled Bangladesh last year amid violent anti-government protests. Speaking to ANI, he stated, "Sheikh Hasina is coming back as the Prime Minister. The young generation made a mistake, but that’s not their fault; they have been manipulated."
He described the student-led uprising that led to Hasina's removal as a "terrorist uprising" rather than a legitimate political movement. "Bangladesh is under attack, and it needs to be addressed by the international community. A political uprising is fine, but what has been happening is terrorism," he added.
Following Hasina’s departure, Mohammed Yunus was appointed as the head of an interim government. His administration has sought Hasina's extradition from India, though there has been no official response from the Indian government on the matter.
Alam further acknowledged India’s role in sheltering Awami League leaders and facilitating Hasina’s safety. "We are very thankful to the Indian government for their support. I also thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring a safe travel passage for our leader," he said.
Hasina has been accused of human rights violations, including the use of security forces to abduct and kill activists. However, she has denied all allegations, maintaining that she is a victim of political persecution.
The political situation in Bangladesh remains tense, with supporters of Hasina calling for her return and critics pushing for accountability. As the crisis unfolds, the international community continues to monitor the developments closely.
