Dubai-based airline Emirates has partnered with Parsys Telemedicine to launch next-generation medical equipment aimed at providing passengers with high-quality and rapid healthcare while in the air. The airline has invested over USD 2.4 million in the co-development of this state-of-the-art telemedicine system, which will be progressively installed on 300 aircraft in the coming years.
The innovative ‘telemedicine station’ features advanced capabilities, including high-definition video conferencing, remote passenger assessment, secure data transmission, and a 12-lead Telecardia ECG. These enhancements empower Emirates' highly trained cabin crew to deliver timely medical interventions in emergency situations, potentially saving lives onboard.
Enhanced Safety, Speed, and Reliability for Passengers
While Emirates has consistently invested in high-quality medical equipment, the latest collaboration with Parsys marks a significant leap forward. This new kit, developed over a yearlong partnership, is designed to offer a more efficient, reliable, and seamlessly connected inflight medical solution, ensuring the highest level of safety for passengers.
At the core of the system is the Parsys Telemedicine Kit and the Parsys Cloud. The portable telemedicine station allows cabin crew to collect crucial patient data and vital signs, which are then transmitted in real-time to Emirates’ Ground Medical Support—a specialized team of medical professionals based at Emirates Group Headquarters in Dubai, available 24/7.
The kit includes advanced medical devices such as a pulse oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, and electrocardiogram (ECG). With Bluetooth-enabled connectivity, passengers’ vital readings are automatically transferred to the Medcapture© device, eliminating the need for manual note-taking by cabin crew and ensuring greater accuracy and efficiency.
Real-Time Medical Support at 40,000 Feet
The Medcapture© device, a tablet equipped with a customized software application, aligns seamlessly with Emirates’ comprehensive medical protocols. Its user-friendly interface ensures that cabin crew can operate it efficiently, even under demanding conditions. The tablet enables real-time communication between cabin crew and Emirates' Ground Medical Support team, allowing for immediate medical consultations and expert guidance during flights. In some cases, ground-based doctors can even visually assess injuries or other medical concerns remotely.
Additionally, the Medcapture© device is integrated with the Parsys Cloud—a secure, cloud-based platform that facilitates the safe and compliant transmission of inflight medical data. This ensures that passenger information is handled in accordance with strict data protection regulations.
With this pioneering inflight medical system, Emirates continues to set new benchmarks for passenger safety and well-being, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and excellence in air travel.
