No society should countenance terrorism

The region is living through challenging times. India stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain. Both our societies abhor terrorism. It is the common will of all the conscientious people around the world that the scourge of terrorism must be fought with determination and while doing so we must remember to draw the correct lessons from the tragedies of the past.

India faced a dastardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on 22 April last year in which 26 innocent people were killed. The perpetrators belonged to the TRF, a proxy of the UN proscribed Laskhar-e-Toiba. In response, Operation Sindoor was launched in May last year which succeeded in destroying the terrorist infrastructure of not only the Lashkar-e-Toiba but also the Jaish-e-Muhammad.

India’s approach combined the trinity of policy, intent and decisive capability. We gave a befitting response to terror attacks on its own terms and took strict action at every place from where the roots of terrorism emerged. This was in line with our approach of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

The actions of the Indian armed forces were measured, non-escalatory, precise, proportionate and decisive. Cessation of firing and military activities occurred on 10 May 2025 at the request of Pakistan, while the Operation Sindoor itself is on-going.

At the same time, India is an ardent advocate of peace and development. It is our preferred approach to international relations and multilateral engagement. This also includes, as an essential element, being steadfast in our resolve to destroy terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem. This is our tribute to each and every individual, family and society that has and is suffering from the scourge of terrorism.
