Washington DC: The US military confirmed another deadly engagement on Friday as part of its ongoing campaign against alleged drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific.
In this latest incident, a small vessel was struck and destroyed, resulting in two fatalities and leaving one survivor. US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) released footage of the explosion, stating the boat was linked to "Designated Terrorist Organizations".
This operation, dubbed ‘Southern Spear,’ marks a radical departure from traditional drug interdiction methods. Instead of seizing contraband and making arrests, the military is now using lethal projectiles against targets it classifies as ‘narco-terrorists’.
However, the Trump administration has faced significant pushback from legal experts who argue that these actions could constitute extrajudicial killings, as no definitive evidence has been provided to link many of the struck vessels to criminal activity. Since the campaign began in September, at least 192 people have been killed.
